If you heard about the tornado that hit Matador the night of Wednesday June 21st, about 8:10 PM CDT, Matador, Texas is about 83.2 miles North East of Lubbock. Here is a video from our local NBC Affiliate yesterday morning. Several agencies from Lubbock have gone to Matador to help. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared the area a disaster area. More videos about the tornado can be found at KCBD.COM. I also saw it mentioned on the 5:30 NBC Nightly News last night.

If you heard about the tornado in Perryton, Texas last Thursday and wonder how far it is from me, Perryton is 241 miles north of Lubbock. I am not aware of anyone I know in Perryton. However, the weatherman on our local NBC Affiliate, John Robison, has a nephew whose in-laws live there. They sent him a picture, and John did put it on his weather cast Thursday evening. The station sent a crew to Perryton Friday. It was also on the national news, so you may have already seen video from there. As of Friday at noon, two people had been brought to a hospital in Lubbock. They said three were dead, and 75+ were injured. The F3 Tornado did wipe out a mobile home park. Agencies around Texas have sent help to Perryton and Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared the area a disaster area.

Here's a video from Amarillo's News Channel 10 the morning of Friday, June 16, 2023. They had a correspondent on the ground in Perryton showing the aftermath, and one of their weather personalities who filmed the tornado on the ground, was in the studio and spoke to the anchor about what he videoed and saw..
