Dear ,

Do you remember where you were May 11, 1970?

I was in the 5th grade and we lived in Bledsoe,Texas. It is now just an unincorporated community about 68 miles west of Lubbock.

Click either the image below or here to see our local NBC Affiliate's (KCBD News Channel 11) broadcast in 1995 talking about the two tornadoes that hit Lubbock the night of May 11, 1970.

Note: In this video, News Anchors Karin McCay and Abner Euresti, who are celebrating their 42nd anniversary this year at KCBD, and Chief Meteorologist John Robison who will celebrate his 40th year in July, discuss the May 11, 1970 tornadoes in 1995.

In 2022, Lubbock did reinstate the Tornado Sirens that John Robison mentions close to the end of this video. Although they "test" them once a month at 9:30 AM, now, I have never heard them since I stopped working at Action Glass & Mirror, and I only heard them a few times there. Thankfully, I have their weather app on my phone, and it will go off if anything comes up.

John Robison did say on the 6:00 news cast today that our current weather is the same as it was May 11, 1970, but he's not predicting any storms for tonight.
In 2020, The Caprock Writers and Illustrators Alliance created our first Anthology called, "Tornado Alley" for the 50th Anniversary of the tornado. I received the submissions and forwarded them to the judges, so I do not have a story in it. The theme is "Tornado Alley" and the authors who submitted stories wrote about a tornado. Some mention the 1970 tornado, others mention other tornadoes, while others have a different spin on "Tornado Alley." You can get your copy of "Tornado Alley" here, or click the cover of the book.

In my novel, "Hot Sensations", the main character, Marty, joins the other tenants in the basement of his apartment complex and listens to the radio while the storm chasers explain where the tornadoes are in town. If you haven't read it yet, reader, you can find a link to purchase a copy at the link above, the button below, or the image of the book.
