If you are in the United States, I hope you have a happy Memorial Day weekend. If you live elsewhere, I hope you have a great weekend.

What do you have planned to do this weekend? Something fun, I hope.

The apartment complex I live in doesn't allow us to have grills, and we don't have a swimming pool. We're under a burn-ban, and I burn too easily, anyway, so I won't be going outside.

NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) was officially shut down in April 2025, but various alternatives have emerged, such as the Reedsy Novel Sprint and ProWritingAid's Novel November, which maintain the spirit of the original challenge by encouraging writers to complete a novel in a month. These alternatives offer similar community support and accountability feature.

A few people in my critique group met on Monday's at a French Restaurant during NaNoWriMo to write. After NaNoWriMo shut down, a couple in our group decided to create the Lubbock Creatives Circle. Their idea was just to write on Monday's during November. I asked why we couldn't do it forever, and not do the "Novel in a Month" thing. So we decided to write at the French Restaurant on Monday night, Wednesday morning at a local grocery store that has a deli, and on Saturday afternoon at a different grocery story that has a coffee shop and deli. I'm unable to meet them on Wednesday mornings, but do join them on Monday and Saturday. This is making it easier to get more written. It's a "come and go as you can" group. No dues. The only rule is we visit for a little while then write. And since we don't pay to use their facilities, we do get something to eat or drink. It's working out great and we're getting a lot of writing done.
