Hi ,

As you know, I've been working as the "receptionist" at a used car lot for the past two years. I started on January 2, 2020. I open at 10:00 AM and close at 7:00 PM Monday through Friday. Most of the time, I'm the only one there. I take payments, answer the phone, and check insurance.

Unfortunately, we don't have any good vehicles or a good mechanic. They doubled the down payment at the beginning of January. We only sold two cars in December. One of those customers had the oil changed on January 2nd, then didn't make it home. It was the timing chain, so we gave her money back and sent that vehicle to the salvage yard.

We sold two cars in January and one of them had a problem that had to be fixed before she could take it. The next day we were trying to deliver it and it started overheating before it got to her house. We were thankful it wasn't her driving. We did get it to her Thursday.

Tuesday, the owner pulled me into his office and informed me that we have to sell at least eight vehicles a week to be able to stay in business, so he's letting me go. My last day will be Wednesday, February 2, 2022. He did say that I can get on unemployment.
Although I don't want to go back on unemployment, I will apply for it Thursday. I tried to apply for it Friday and the system said I couldn't until the 2nd.

Now that I won't be working, maybe I’ll have more time and energy to get back to work on Hot-Rod Magazine—which I have been working on the past week.

I did get a text last week from Kelly Services stating they have a temp-perm call center position in a local hospital, but I really don't want to go back to a call center.

Thanks for being a valued reader, .

I’ll keep you informed.
Mathis…
