Byron had switched to drinking soda after the intermission, but Mary Lynn had another frozen margarita, so I didn’t have to worry about him driving them home.

At the end of the show, all of the performers returned to the stage to sing a final song together, then the lights came up and Rory thanked everyone for attending. Then Gerald invited everyone to stick around and enjoy the music and dancing. “But please wait for the camera crew to finish packing up, first,” he’d added.
While Rory, Francine, Lance, and Brandon packed up their equipment, Aaron made his way around the bar asking the audience members how they’d enjoyed the show and videoing their responses.

I was surprised he didn’t stop and ask us, but, while Byron and Mary Lynn made another trip to the restroom he came over to the table and, placing the camera on the table, sat down on Byron’s chair and said, “It was a great show, wasn’t it?”

“Yes, it was,” I agreed.

“Listen,” he said, nervously. This was about the time I usually winked and smiled at a guy when he wasn’t sure if I’d be gay or not and he was interested, but before I could, he leaned over and said, “I know you came in with Kim, but I was wondering if you’re together? She’s really hot and I’d like to ask her out if you’re not.”

“Uh, you’ve never been here before, have you?” I asked.

“Well, no,” he replied, frowning. “I know it’s a gay club. That’s why I haven’t since I’m not gay.”

“I thought so. Well, I’ll be glad to introduce you to her, and she’ll probably really like you. But the only two girls with pussies in the show were the clowns that performed first, and they’re a couple, so I don’t think you can make it with either of them.”

His eyes grew wide as his face turned pale, then green. I was afraid he was going to throw up, but I relaxed when it turned blue, then changed to red, then yellow, then pink, as the lights above the stage changed colors, reflecting off his handsome face. The dance music started, indicating the crew was gone, and we could start dancing.

Before he could reply, Rory appeared next to him and said, “Did you get enough B-Roll, Aaron?”

“Uh, yeah. I think so,” he replied, getting to his feet as Kim made his way over to us.

Aaron shouldered his camera as Kim approached and I asked, “Do you want to interview her?”

“Uh, no. It’s too noisy in here, now,” he replied. “Let’s go, Rory.”

Not waiting for Rory to follow him, he took off toward the stage door.

“Good job, Kim,” Rory said, shaking his hand.

“Thank you,” Kim replied.

“You were great!” I exclaimed; hugging Kim as Rory headed toward the backstage door. “Why didn’t you tell me you were going to perform, not just sing?”

He grinned at me and hugged me tighter. “I wanted to surprise you. Were you able to get it all?”

“I hope so,” I replied. “If not, I’m sure I can sweet-talk Rory into giving us a copy of it.”

“Or just record it when they air it,” he replied. He never said anything, but he didn’t like it when I sweet-talked Rory into anything.

“That’s true,” I agreed as he slid onto the chair I indicated on my left.

Resting my arm across the back of his chair, I said, “Aaron thinks you’re hot and wanted me to introduce you. But he didn’t realize you have a dick.”

He smiled at me. “I thought he was hot, too. Too bad you told him. I would have liked to at least kiss on him for a little while and maybe suck his dick.”

“Yeah, but I didn’t want to take a chance on him freaking out and hitting you or something.”

“Well, thank you. I appreciate that,” he replied as Shelby arrived.

“What do you want, Hon?” I asked, pulling the money Gerald had refused out of my shirt pocket.
“Let me have a Hurricane, please,” he said.

“Certainly,” Shelby replied and told me the price. I gave him a ten and told him to keep the change.

“Thanks.” Picking up Byron’s empty glass, he asked, “Are they gone?”
“No, they’ll be back. Please bring him another Sprite and me a Coke. I don’t know what she’ll want.”

“I think I’m ready for a bottle of water,” Mary Lynn said as she returned.

“Yes, Ma’am,” Shelby said and departed.

“Mary Lynn,” I said, “this is Kim Wong.”

“Nice to meet you,” Mary Lynn said, smiling brightly. “You were fantastic!”

“Thank you,” Kim replied keeping his fem voice and looked quizzically at me.

I shrugged. I had no idea if Byron had told her Kim was a dude or that I was gay. But by the reaction she’d given Shelby the first time he’d served us, I doubted it.

“I’ve never been here before,” Mary Lynn said. “I didn’t realize it was a gay bar. I’ve been to a few of the straight bars and haven’t enjoyed them very much. I guess since they don’t have a neat-o dance floor like this one that can be used as a stage, they don’t have shows so you can’t perform at them. Is that why you always come here? You seem to know the staff pretty well.”

Well, that answered the question of what Byron had told her.

“We’re here every Friday,” Kim informed her. “I don’t get to sing every week, but frequently. That’s why we know the staff.”

“How long have you been dating?” she asked.

“We’ve known each other for almost three years,” I replied, “but we’ve only been dating for a little over a year.”

“How was The Rose Garden?” Kim asked before Mary Lynn could ask if we were planning to get married.

“Oh, it was wonderful. The food was great. I was looking forward to dancing, but when Byron said they were shooting a TV show and you were performing I couldn’t pass up the chance to come see it live.”

“Maybe Byron will take you back there again sometime,” I said.

“And maybe my boyfriend will take me one day, too,” Kim said with a smile as Byron returned from the restroom.

“Might do that,” I agreed. “Do you have to make a reservation or just show up?”

“Gotta have a reservation,” Byron replied.

After Shelby returned with our drinks, Byron stood up, took Mary Lynn by the hand, and led her out onto the dance floor. As I looked around the crowded room, I realized they were not the only straight couple who had come for the show and was glad that the others hadn't left, either.

Kim leaned over and said, "Let me see my performance, Quinn."

I knew it was too loud in the club for him to hear it, but I removed my phone from my inside coat pocket and pulled my Bluetooth out of my side pocket and handed it to him. He placed it over his ear, while I brought up the video, then pressed play.
Moving my chair closer to his, I held the phone so we could both see the performance, even though I couldn't hear it.

The song the club played ended a few moments before Kim's performance, and as the video ended, Byron and Mary Lynn returned to the table.

"That was great," Mary Lynn said sitting down.

Removing the Bluetooth from his ear, Kim said, "Let's dance."

We left Mary Lynn and Byron at the table along with Kim’s purse, and we danced to a few songs.

When we returned to the table, Mary Lynn was ready to dance again, so we watched her purse while they danced.

Kim leaned over and placed his hand on my arm. “I’m ready to go when they get back.”

“Sure.”

“I can’t remember when I had such a good time,” Mary Lynn said, sitting back down at the table. “Thank you so much for inviting us.”

“You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed the show,” I said, sliding off the chair. “We’re going to head out. You can stay until closing if you want to.”

Mary Lynn glanced at her watch and got to her feet. “It’s almost one, I think I’m ready to go, too.”

Byron stood up and hugged me. “I’ll call you in the morning so we can talk about you know what.”

“Okay. Be careful going home,” I said. “It was nice meeting you, Mary Lynn.”
